I can't believe my baby is 4! Sniff, Sniff. Where did those 4 years go? Jack has always been a super sweet and fun-loving little guy who absolutely loves his older brothers. Or "Brudders" as he calls them. Of all my boys, he is the most imaginative and independent. He can play for hours with his toys and the way he talks and noises he makes when he does so is completely heart-warming. He doesn't like to be caught in the act though. If you mention how awesome you find the way he plays with his toys he will immediately stop and totally not want to do it anymore. So, the best thing to do is just watch from a distance and enjoy his creativity and boundless imagination. As I am writing this now (5 months after the fact), Jack's most favorite thing is Star Wars. He wants to watch one of the Star Wars movies every day on the "blueberry player" (BlueRay player), at least once a day. Whenever there is a battle with a lightsaber in the moves, he will grab his own lightsaber and literally fight along with Anakin and Obi Wan. It is so fun to watch! Again, we have to observe from a distance because if he catches us watching him he will immediately stop. He loves to do puzzles and is amazingly good at them. Jack is very liked amongst his classmates at school--especially the girls--and they always like to chase him and apparently talk about him to their families all the time. He has just started coming into our room at night (they each kind of go through a span where they do this, so at least he is getting his turn--albeit later in life than his brothers did) and is the sweetest most snuggly little bug in our bed. He often wakes me up with kisses and "I love you's" which I love more than anything. His favorite things to eat are pizza, noodles, rice and tomatoes. He also loves artichokes and is happy to dip just about anything into ketchup. He does not care for much in the way of sweets with the exception of brownies, chocolate chip cookies and, most recently, ice cream. Do not try to tempt him with cakes or cupcakes or candy because he will flat out wrinkle his nose and refuse! He does love salty snacks and a particular special snack for him his "Turkey" (which he calls all forms of "jerky"). I could just go on and on about how awesome this little guy of mine is. I wish I could stop time!
Since Jack is such an expert two-wheel rider now, and since we already had a party for him a few weeks back, we decided to go on another bike adventure to celebrate Jack's special day. He was so excited about this!
Near the end of our adventure we got absolutely pummeled by rain! It was pouring from the skies in sheets. We kept riding through the sheer wetness until we could find some shelter at an information booth near the beginning of the trail. This is where we decided to sing "Happy Birthday" to Jack and have him blow out a candle. I had packed up a homemade brownie (Grandma Jill's recipe--his favorite!) just for this reason.
After our wet adventure, we dried off, changed our clothes and headed into town for a celebratory pizza dinner. We actually found a pizzeria that would let the kids "make" their own pizza. It ended up taking quite a while since we had to wait for them to attend to their delivery orders before they could accommodate us, but I think that the boys had fun doing this--especially the birthday boy!
Then, we went home, opened some more presents and had more birthday brownies!
