The First Days of School and the End of Summer

This summer I decided to start a new tradition of celebrating the beginning of school.  Not because I was excited that the boys were going back to school, but because I was--and they were--a little sad that our fun summer days were coming to an end.  And, I wanted them to start the school year off with a little excitement, so we had a celebration of sorts with a special dinner complete with "kids champagne" and a little toast to our favorite memories from the summer.  The next day the lazy, non-routine we had become accustomed to would completely change and we would start the new routine of school.

Fun times at the bus stop and waiting for the bus...

We took a quick trip to Longwood Gardens after kindergarten one day...

My shopping buddy--this kid is just bananas!!!

Jack's first day of preschool...

At this point, Jack had recently perfected the art of riding on two wheels. Of course that meant that riding a motorcycle would soon follow.  He was so excited to try, and he sure looked cute doing it, but he wasn't quite ready to handle the throttle and the balancing all at the same time.  He gave it a good shot, though!

And his awesome big brothers were there to cheer him on!

This is the time of year that we love to do our bike adventures since it is not so miserably hot.  The trail we go on is nice and shady and always a fun time.  This time was particularly special since it was the first time we were all on our own bikes--all on two wheels!

What a good big brother--helping his little brother get ready for school.  While this is not a portrayal of a typical school morning at the B-Hive it sure was heart-warming to walk down the hall and see this! Notice the handsome shirt that Sam is wearing.  The boys typically choose their own clothing to wear and while Max gravitates towards athletic shorts and t-shirts, Sam is always searching through his closet to find the perfect handsome attire.  I always look forward to seeing what he has picked out for the day!

We went apple picking with a big crew from our elementary school and had a great time sampling  gathering delicious apples as well as playing with our friends...

Max's 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Dailey, is very good at photography and took this awesome pic of Max the first week of school.  He is so handsome!
