This and That in January

I think January was my slowest month ever when it comes to keeping my camera busy.  I only took 45 photos and probably half of those were of the new kitchen (I posted those in the last entry).  So, this will be short and sweet!

We did a lot of indoor stuff this winter.  Starting in January, the weather was so cold--chill you to the bone cold--and windy and icy.  We didn't get a lot of snow, but man was it cold.  We barely went outside.  Maybe once or twice a week we would play out there for a little while.  This is so different from past winters when we tried to go out every day, even if it was just for a few minutes.  So, part of this discrepancy can be accredited to the crazy cold weather, but a (littler) part of it is definitely due to the fact that we are just so gosh darn busy and Max gets home from school so late and we are always on the go and it has been a really awfully cold winter!

But at least we have a ton of toys and a big basement so we can have fun inside!!!  Legos, Wii, blocks, Puzzles, iPads, Puzzles, TV, Puzzles, More TV and More Puzzles, superheroes, X-Box, "new" iPad and "old" iPad--these are the things we played with all month long.  We did go sledding a couple of times after our first real snow storm, but sadly I didn't get a picture of that.  I did get a video but I am too lazy (or too tired, it is 12:03 in the morning as I am writing this) to figure out how to take it off of my phone and onto here.

Jack went through a serious "Frozen" phase.  He would watch it over and over--it was all he wanted to watch for a couple of months!  Whenever he saw  any of the characters at the store in a display or a pez dispenser or a DVD rental box he would point them out.  Somehow he managed to talk me into buying every pez dispenser we came across if it had a character we didn't own yet.   He particularly likes Elsa with Anna following in at a close second.   The cutest thing in the world is when he sings his little version of "Let it go."  In fact, just thinking of it saddens me a little because as I am writing this (in March) he has since moved beyond the Frozen stage and I never thought to video his cute little voice singing that song.  I don't have it recorded.  Bummer, because it was adorable.

Paul and I started (and completed) our second  Whole 30 in January!  We actually had a lot of fun cooking up new and exciting meals in our fabulously gorgeous kitchen! I even discovered some new foods that I had never tried before--who knew rutabagas were so delicious?   Paul made this awesome Whole30 breakfast for me one lazy weekend morning...

Max and Sam played on a flag football team together--the Redskins.  They were awesome, winning every game and taking the Championship title.  The boys had so much fun playing it, and we had so much fun watching them (although it did get a little nerve-wracking at times)!   They had an amazing coach (a friend of ours named Joe) who actually taught them to run plays like the "Statue of Liberty" and how to run a blitz.  It was a great way to break up the cooped-up winter blues!

The last picture from January is my cute little Jack reaching for one of his most favorite things to eat.  This kid definitely takes after his mama!  Jack is my little buddy--we are always together!  His preschool class is twice a week for 2.5 hours each, but other than that he is mine.  I am loving it and relishing it and trying to really appreciate this time with my baby.  Our time together is a little different than it was with Max or Sam when they were his age because I feel like these days we are always on the go.  There are kids to drop off and kids to pick up and groceries and the gym and errands and the list can be never-ending.  When Max and Sam were his age I didn't even need to leave the house on certain days of the week if I didn't feel like it.  Now, with Max in school, we have to go somewhere and be somewhere every single day.  I swear I don't know when or why this all happened.  I guess it is just a sign that my kids are growing up.  It is happening too quickly.

Our Beautiful New Kitchen!!!

Finally, after 8+ weeks, we have the amazing, beautiful kitchen of our dreams.  We love it so much!!!

Here is the new color of the living room.  Paul was definitely not a fan of the blue, so we compromised on Clary Sage.  While I really liked the blue, I like this new green color considerably more than I did the orange...

We finally got window treatments and a rug for the family room just a couple of weeks ago.   I absolutely love how it is coming together.  I still need to do a little more decorating of the mantle (the topiaries look a little lonely up there), but what a lifestyle change this has all been.  It was a rough and painful trek--I am not going to lie--but we are loving our new living area!

Kitchen Renovation Phase 4: Pulls, Countertops and Backsplash

The installation of the countertops was so exciting!  We love the contrast of our leathered black antiqued granite against the white cabinetry...

And the custom wood top they made for our island is beyond beautiful...

The gray watercolored tile backsplash gave the kitchen a finished and cohesive look...

Remember what that area that now houses our beautiful sink used to look like?

This is a picture of me with Sharon, the Designer, and Stacey, the project manager from Chester County Kitchen and Bath (the shop we used to do our kitchen).  Both women were beyond amazing to work with and helped ensure our project ran smoothly and to our satisfaction...

After many, many weeks, we finally got to cook (and eat) in our new kitchen!!!   We hadn't moved into it yet, but we were so excited to finally use it.

Just when we thought we were done with all the moving of furniture, and dust and fumes, we had to uproot ourselves one last time.  All of the furniture that we had stored in the living and dining rooms had to be moved over to the "new" side of the house so that the floor on the living/dining room side could be refinished.  We continued to live like this for over a week as we slowly moved into the new kitchen...

Remember the old color of the living room (Paul LOVED this color)...

I somehow convinced him to let us change it.  He begrudgingly agreed...

I really like the new color--SW Languid Blue.  It makes the room feel so open and bright and clean.  Paul did not like the change, however, so we have changed it again.  I will post the new color in the next installment!

After we got all of the furniture moved back into its place, the fireplace construction began.  This particular project was a headache and a nightmare and a big load of stress for something so comparatively small...

But it turned out gorgeous!!!

Remember the eye sore it was before?

Ahhhh :)
